The Tennessee Employment Consortium is working to increase the number of people with disabilities that are served by the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to be employed in the community.
TEC is a collaboration between the Council on Developmental Disabilities, DIDD and the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS). For more information, contact Alicia Cone.
The Alliance for Full Participation is a national organization dedicated to increasing the integration, productivity, independence and quality of life of people with developmental disabilities. This national organization is a partnership of leading developmental disability organizations, including the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, The Arc of United States, Autism Society of America, United Cerebral Palsy, the Association of University Centers on Disability and the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities, as well as many others.
The Alliance’s current major goal is to double the employment rate for people with developmental disabilities by 2015. For the Alliance for Full Participation and its member organizations, “employment” refers to integrated and competitive job opportunities.
In Tennessee, a state planning team has created a list of priorities that will guide these efforts to improve employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. We hope that by implementing these action steps, we can begin to change the landscape of employment in Tennessee so that all people with developmental disabilities who want to work are able to find and keep good, well-paying jobs that they want to do.
