Tennessee Correction Academy

Technology and Training

In 2008/2009, the academy implemented its distance learning program by broadcasting via satellite to the Northeast Correctional Complex, a maximum security prison which is located in Mountain City. By targeting this prison for training, the state of Tennessee was able to save employee travel expense and external manpower shortages. This innovative training allows the academy to broadcast training programs from an academy instructor to a classroom at Northeast.

Providing multi-site training allows the academy to expand its scope and offer similar training to other prisons in the near future.

The academy maintains a video conferencing library of a number of videos produced over the years from the National Institute of Corrections, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Many of these may be loaned or rebroadcast via the TDOC's video conferencing link.
