The Southern Middle Tennessee region rests between the Tennessee River in the west and I-24 in the east. The region’s manufacturing base is diverse and includes companies in the automotive, chemical products and plastics, food processing and advanced manufacturing sectors. The region’s abundant water supply has made the region famous for its distilleries, which include Jack Daniel’s in Lynchburg. George Dickel’s in Tullahoma and Prichard’s Fine Rum in Kelso.

Clay Banks joined the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development in March 2012 as regional director for Southwest Tennessee. As regional director, Banks is the primary point-of-contact for Southwest Tennessee companies seeking state assistance with expansion or with accessing state services. Read More

Prior to joining TNECD, Banks served as the director of Economic Development for the Bartlett Area Chamber of Commerce where he worked to attract targeted businesses for relocation and expansion, tracking over 4,000 new jobs and over $350 million in capital investments between 2008-2011.

Banks serves on the community advisory board of directors for Methodist North Hospital, Bartlett Station Commission chairman-elect for 2009-2011 and is the founder of the Bartlett Farmers’ Market.

Banks is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
