All eight state park restaurants will be open Thursday, Nov. 26, serving their annual Thanksgiving Day feast. Thanksgiving turkey and all the traditional trimmings, along with an assortment of desserts, will be available beginning at 11:00 a.m. until closing at state park restaurants across Tennessee. South Cumberland State Park hosts Gizzard Day Hike on Nov. 27. Come hike the 13 mile Fiery Gizzard Trail to work out your senses as well as your body. Meet at the Grundy Forest parking lot with a pack lunch and water. For more information call (931) 924-2980. Cumberland Mountain State Park hosts Plateau Gobbler Gallop on Nov. 28. The eighth race in the State Parks Running Tour is an 11K (6.8 miles) circuit through beautiful Cumberland Mountain State Park. For more information call Tony Cox with the Frostbite Running Club at (615) 773-8785. N. B. Forrest State Park hosts Lighting of the Knob on Nov. 28. The 6th annual Lighting of the Knob features lights decorating the museum, visits with Santa, choirs playing festive music with lots of food and fellowship. Knob will be lit at 6 p.m. CST. For more information call (731) 584-2128. Sycamore Shoals State Park opens Winterfest Christmas Tree Exhibit & Art Show on Nov. 29 and runs though month of December. Month-long Winterfest opens on Nov. 29 at 1:30 p.m. EST. with a reception to view the trees, artwork and an opportunity to meet the artists. Exhibit features fraser fir trees decorated by local organizations with handmade ornaments artwork displays by Watauga Valley Art League. For more information call (423) 543-5808. “beautiful Tennessee: Parks and Preservation” will premiere on Sunday, November 29, at 7:00 p.m. CST on Nashville Public Television - Channel 8. “Parks and Preservation” is the third installment of the beautiful Tennessee series produced by Nashville Public Television with a focus on the cultural and historical assets of our state parks and federal military battlefield sites. Tennessee State Park locations featured include Dunbar Cave, Pinson Mounds, Old Stone Fort, Fort Loudoun, Justin P. Wilson Cumberland Trail, South Cumberland, Cove Lake, Cumberland Mountain and Montgomery Bell. David Crockett State Park hosts Christmas in the Park on Nov. 30 & Dec. 2. David Crockett continues celebration of its 50th Anniversary by lighting the park with simple lights and candles spread throughout shelters in the park. Transportation options include walking or hay ride wagon. Handicap assistance is available. Event times will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. CST each night.
