Reelfoot Lake hosts Bald Eagle and Waterfowl Tours daily from Feb. 1– Feb. 28
(WEST) During the winter months Reelfoot Lake is home to approximately 200 American Bald Eagles and spectacular numbers of waterfowl. Experienced park naturalists lead daily bald eagle and waterfowl bus or van tours through the end of February. The tour is a two-hour bus trip around Reelfoot Lake to observe the Bald Eagles and waterfowl. Tours are offered seven days a week. Buses leave the Visitor Center at 10 a.m. CT everyday & also 1:30 p.m. CT on weekends. Reservations are required. There is a $5 charge for the tour. Tour guides equipped with binoculars, telescopes and most important, extensive knowledge of the eagles, rarely have difficulty locating the birds. Edgar Evins (middle) hosts Nature in Winter on Feb. 2
Winter can be a cold and unforgiving time in nature. Join the park ranger for a cold morning hike on the Millennium Trail to learn about the survival strategies employed by plants and animals in the wintertime. We are asking for snow, so dress in layers and warm boots. Meet at the park Millennium Trailhead at 10 a.m. CT. This is a moderate, two and a half mile hike. For more information call 931-982-3918.

South Cumberland (plateau) hosts Frosty Meadow Hike on Feb. 2
Meet at the Visitor Center for a brisk walk through the meadow.  Along this 1.5 mile walk, we will discuss how the plants and critters cope with the cold and freezing weather. For more information call 931-924-2980.

Harpeth River (middle) hosts Hidden Lake Hike on Feb. 3
Join us at 10 a.m. CT to hike a 2 mile moderate loop trail through a wooded area along bluffs and lakes featuring points of interest from the quarry and resort eras. Max 15 people. For more information and to RSVP call 615-952-2099.

Fall Creek Falls (plateau) hosts Basket Weaving Workshop on Feb. 8-10
On this weekend, Jim and Nancy Phillips will guide you through the basics of basket making. There is a fee for this event and registration is required. Fall Creek Falls hosts Volunteer Day on Feb. 9
Every 2nd Saturday is Volunteer Day except in September and December. Activities are physical and vary from month to month. Meet park staff and the friends group at the Nature Center at 9 a.m. CT. Wear sturdy shoes and clothing that is appropriate for the weather forecasted. Bring water and work gloves. Fall Creek Falls SNA (plateau) hosts Winter Day Hike on Feb. 16
Join David Lincicome with the TN Divison of State Natural Areas for a brisk, loop hike on the Cane Creek Gorge Overlook Trail and Woodland Trail. Hikers will see Cane Creek Falls, Fall Creek Falls and overlooks of Cane Creek Gorge - 2 miles. Alternate trail will be Paw Paw Loop Trail which includes the overlooks of Cane Creek Falls, Fall Creek Falls and Cane Creek Gorge - 3 miles. We will decide on which trail based on the group and weather. Dress warmly in layers, wear sturdy boots, and bring plenty of water and lunch or a snack. This trip will be limited to 20 guests. Frozen Head (plateau) hosts Volunteer Day on Feb. 16
Assist with trail maintenance and some trail construction. Bring a daypack, water, snack/lunch and work gloves. Volunteers should wear a good pair of sturdy boots and dress appropriately for the weather. The park will provide hand tools. Workdays last from 9 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. ET. Meet at the Visitors Center just prior to start time. If you are a first time volunteer, please show up at 8 a.m. to fill out required paperwork and for a brief safety meeting. You must be in good physical shape, as you may have to hike an hour or so to a job site. Volunteers should be aware that elevation is a factor at Frozen Head. Pickett hosts (plateau) Volunteer Day on Feb. 16
Participate in trail work, planting native species, litter clean up and other park projects. Meet park personnel and the Friends group at the park office at 9 a.m. CT. Work days generally last until 3 p.m. CT. Bring gloves, water, a sack lunch and snacks. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Sunscreen, insect repellant and a hat are also good to have. Feel free to work a few hours or stay the entire time. Call the park office if you have questions or need more information at 931-879-5821.

Roan Mountain (east) hosts Winter Naturalist’s Rally on Feb. 16
The Winter Natualist’s Rally is a family-friendly, winter celebration of the Roan Highlands: their grassy balds, balds of green alder--a relict shrub from the Pleistocene, their birds and rare & endangered wildlife. We’ll meet Saturday morning, at 9 a.m. ET at the Roan Mountain State Park conference center. The day’s events include hikes, interpretive programs, guest speakers and more. Sycamore Shoals (east) hosts Militia Muster at Fort Watauga on Feb 16 & 17
Visit Fort Watauga and step into a colorful Revolutionary world. Re-enactors portray a variety of characters, from hunters and farmers to land speculators and backcountry gentry. Walk among colonists and native people who share their past through talks, mini-dramas, and demonstrations of 18th century life. Programs begin at 10 a.m. ET both days. Several American Bald Eagles make Center Hill Lake their winter home. Meet the ranger at Boat Ramp #2 at 8 a.m. CT for an informative discussion about our country's National Symbol. Radnor Lake (middle) hosts Volunteer Day on Feb. 23
Volunteers, along with Radnor Lake staff, meet on the fourth Saturday of each month (except December) from 8 a.m. until noon CT at the Visitor Center off of Granny White Pike. Projects include exotic plant removal, mulching trails, and planting native vegetation. We really appreciate all of our volunteers and hope that you will join us!
