Training on Accessibility: Recreation and Support Facilities

The 2010 ADA Accessibility Standards have been adopted and for the first time recreation facilities are specifically included. Standards for outdoor developed areas such as trails, campgrounds, picnic and viewing areas and beaches are close to being finalized. This 3-day training course conducted by the National Center on Accessibility will provide an overview of the new accessibility standards while emphasizing how design and construction affect people with disabilities and how people with disabilities function in park facilities. The workshop is FULL, if you wish to be added to the waiting list as slots come available, email tdec.res@tn.gov.

  2011-2012 Recreation Services Study

Recreation Educational Services (RES) recently conducted a survey of Parks and Recreation Departments across the State of Tennessee. The results will be published in a study on the services, salaries and inventories of local Parks and Recreation Departments to assist in future planning. The study will also allow each community compare their current standing in the areas of salaries, recreation programs and facilities, and land acreage with other communities comparable in population and budget. We anticipate the study to be available in April 2012.
