Standardized Inspection Manual

In 2009 in response to tank owner requests, the Division of Underground Storage Tanks began developing a Standardized Inspection Process to help ensure that Tennessee tank owners receive a more uniform and consistent compliance inspection. This effort involved drafting a new Standardized Inspection Manual containing the Standardized Inspection Process as well as revisions to Division Compliance Guidance Documents (CGDs).  The CGDs were long overdue for revisions due to numerous rule changes and advancements in technology which were not included in these documents which were last revised in the 1990s. The division solicited and received several comments on the draft documents through extensive outreach efforts to the regulated community and service providers in 2010 and again in 2012. As a result, numerous changes have been incorporated into the Standardized Inspection Manual. This Manual is intended to be used by inspectors and service providers, such as testers and installers, and tank owners are invited to use the information contained in the Manual. The CGDs are now referred to as Technical Chapters in the Manual.

The Standardized Inspection Manual has not yet been finalized and the Division may still consider any suggestions for improvements in the content of the Manual and appreciates being informed if readers discover any factual or typographical errors in the documents. Once it is determined when these documents are final, notice will be posted on the website. The most recent versions of the draft documents are linked below and each document may be downloaded separately instead of downloading the entire Manual.
