Child Care - Recovery Information

The Recovery Child Care Scholarship Program is CLOSED. All funds have been allocated for this time-limited ARRA program.

In 2009, the Tennessee Department of Human Services received funding for the Child Care Development Fund through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These federal dollars have been used for a child care scholarship program for low-income working families who are not eligible for existing child care assistance categories, such as Families First (Tennessees Temporary Assistance to Needy Families or TANF program).

All state-licensed child care agencies (centers, group and family homes) were invited to participate in this program. DHS has served more than 4,000 Tennessee families and over 5,000 children through this program. The funding for this program is limited. Eligible children will be served with scholarship dollars until September 30, 2010, or until the funding is exhausted, whichever is sooner. Caretakers whose children are currently on the scholarship program MUST work at least 30 hours a week or be a full-time student to continue their eligibility. Other eligibility requirements can be found here.
