MAY COUNTY UNEMPLOYMENT RATES
Rates Show Decreases in 86 Counties

NASHVILLE - Tennessee's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May 2004 of 4.8 percent, down from the April revised rate of 4.9 percent, was released on June 17, 2004. County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for May 2004, released today, show that nine counties increased and 86 counties decreased.

Williamson County registered the state's lowest county unemployment rate at 2.3 percent, down from 2.5 in April. Lauderdale County's rate of 11.1 percent, down from 11.6 in April, was the state's highest.

Knox County had the state's lowest major metropolitan county rate at 2.5 percent, down from 2.6 in April. Hamilton County was 3.3 percent, down from 3.7 in April. Davidson was 3.6, down from 3.8 in April, and Shelby County was 5.2 percent, down from 5.5.
