Corning Earns State Workplace Safety Award
NASHVILLE
- Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley recently
presented Owens Corning of Jackson the Governor's Award of Excellence
for Workplace Safety and Health. Neeley presented the award July 28, 2004,
at the 27th annual Tennessee Safety and Health Congress and Exposition
held at the Opryland Convention Center in Nashville.
"The evaluation criteria for the Governor's Award are demanding,"
said Neeley. "Achieving the required level of safety shows Owens
Corning is strongly committed to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
It's a tribute to the company that its employees work to sustain such
a notable safety record."
The Governor's Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health is
given to Tennessee employers who meet the required number of hours during
a calendar year without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an
employee to miss a day of work or restrict his normal job activities.
The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.
Owens Corning in Jackson has worked more than 518,000 man hours without
a lost-time or restricted duty case, dating back to June 10, 2003. The
Jackson plant manufactures glass for residential and commercial roofing
mat products and also for specialty glass applications.
