Workers' Compensation seminars highlight new rules

Workers' Compensation and Tennessee OSHA are partnering with the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce for a series of seminars across the state discussing the Workers' Comp Reform Act of 2013. The purpose is to educate employers about the impact of the bill and offer ways to avoid workplace injuries.

Program returns 5,321 to work with savings of more than $1.25 million to trust fund

Through the department’s Re-Employment Services Assessment (RESA) program, unemployment claimants who would likely exhaust all of their benefits are selected to work one-on-one with a Career Center interviewer. They agree to an employability development plan, including weekly work search activities. RESA claimants must report to the Career Center once a week for four weeks with documented proof of their work search.

Labor releases report on demand occupations in TN

The department has released a report of Tennessee jobs predicted to be in demand for the next seven years, based on Bureau of Labor Statistics information. The report is a tool for those who are entering the workforce or are changing careers.

  Annual Rate Notices coming soon
Annual Premium Rate notices will be mailed to employers in early August. The notice will inform each employer of his premium rate effective for the third quarter of 2013.  The notice also includes the amount of premiums paid, any benefits charged to the account, and the average taxable wages through December 31, 2012. These factors determine each employer’s reserve ratio, which, depending on the Premium Table in effect, determines the rate at which an experience-rated employer pays unemployment insurance premiums.
