Description

This course is designed for recently promoted investigators and those who have been investigators for less than five years. This is a two-week school designed to provide an overview of the skills and knowledge necessary to carry an investigation through all phases of the process to a successful conclusion. Areas of emphasis include: Interview & Interrogation, Sexting, Human Trafficking, Case File Preparation, Telephone Exploitation (pen register/wiretap), TBI’s Criminal Intelligence Unit/Fusion Center, Domestic Terrorism, Arson Investigation, Suicide by Cop, Computer Forensics, Internet Crime, Death Investigation, Search & Seizure Law, Legislative Update for Law Enforcement Issues, Jencks/Giglio Issues, HIPAA Issues for Law Enforcement, Drug Diversion Statutes, CODIS, TBI Sex Offender Registry/Update on SOR Laws, and Gangs. Basic concepts in crime scene will include: Latent Prints, Microanalysis, Firearms & Ballistics, Documenting and Sketching Crime Scenes, and Crime Scene Photography. The basic fundamentals of crime scenes will be presented in lectures with practical exercises included. This course will culminate in a mock crime scene and group presentations.

This course is designed for recently promoted investigators and those who have been investigators for less than five years.

 

Materials

Students need to bring a digital camera both weeks of this class. Also, the student needs to bring appropriate clothing (i.e. jeans/BDUs and tennis shoes/boots) for processing crime scenes, both inside and outside. Students should bring the crime scene kits that are used at their department.
