This is an advanced course for criminal investigators, crime scene technicians, and forensic scientists who have been processing crime scenes for at least five (5) years and/or have already attended Basic City/County Investigation School. The student is expected to have background and experience in processing crime scenes. This course will focus on advanced techniques in documenting crime scenes and evidence collection. Practical exercises will focus both on collecting and processing evidence at the crime scene as well as in a laboratory setting. Advanced photography techniques will also be covered. Lectures will incorporate practical exercises. Topics related to crime scene management and the subsequent investigation will also be presented. This course will culminate in a mock crime scene and group presentation.

68 hours



Minimum 5 years of experience processing crime scenes.


Materials Participants should bring the following:  camera and appropriate clothing for processing crime scenes (jeans/BDUs and tennis shoes/boots). Students should bring crime scene kits that are used at their departments.
