Division of Clinical Leadership

The Office of Training, Development and Education

  • Promotes ongoing education for healthcare providers, service recipients and their families
  • Plans and coordinates in collaboration with other state departments and community mental health agencies mental health educational programs that provide tools to:
    • Identify signs and symptoms of mental health diagnoses
    • Effective treatment modalities and interventions
    • Updated research on treatment modalities and interventions
    • Update on effective medication
    • Provide information about what individuals with mental illness can do to help themselves
    • Provide information about What the family can do to help their family members who have a mental health diagnosis
    • Provide a list of community mental health resources
    • Coordinating follow-up activities within the faith communities

The division also participates in annual mental health and suicide prevention conferences across the state. Some of the recent conferences include:

  • Suicide Prevention and Older Adults, Nashville 2009
  • Suicide in the Black Church, Memphis 2009 and 2011
  • Suicide Prevention and the African American Faith Communities, Nashville 2010 and 2011
  • Suicide prevention and the African American Faith Communities, Murfreesboro 2011 and 2012

In addition, the division provides and coordinates suicide prevention training and awareness in the African American faith communities by:

  • Developing planning groups for each conference
  • Coordinating staff mental health in-services
