The Forgotten Conflict: Teaching the War of 1812 in Tennessee

Response to our summer teacher institute was so positive that we decided to add a one-day version of this workshop for licensed classroom teachers in East and West Tennessee. Participants will work with original primary sources available at TSLA related to the War of 1812 and explore teaching strategies that will help you teach the War of 1812 in your classrooms. Participants receive lunch and $50 for parking and mileage.

When and Where?

East Tennessee:June 18 in Vonore at the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum, 8 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

West Tennessee:June 26 in Jackson at the Jackson-Madison County Library, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Workshop is full, please email us to be placed on the waitlist.)

Please join the Tennessee State Library & Archives for sessions exploring the various primary sources available at the TSLA website including the Tennessee Virtual Archive, the Civil War GIS Project, the Civil War Sourcebook, historic newspapers, online exhibits, and more! Special focus will be given to how teachers may find primary sources that link specifically to the new social studies curriculum standards.
