Region 4 (East Tennessee) Dove Fields

Buffalo Springs

Crops planted: 15 acres (total) of buckwheat, sunflowers. popcorn, corn, and millet. 

Hunt Dates: Same as statewide seasons. Opens at noon on September 1. Dove hunting is first come, first serve and from staked postiions only (approximately 50). 

WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Remember shotgun plugs and Migratory Bird Permit. Hunter Education required for those born on or after January, 1, 1969.

Directions: (Grainger County) From Knoxville take the Rutledge Pike Exit (Hwy. 11W) off Interstate 40 north through Blaine to Joppa. Just past Joppa School, take the first road to the right (Owl Hole Gap Road), go 3.7 miles and turn right on Indian Ridge Road. Then go 0.6 miles and turn left on the gravel road at the Buffalo Springs WMA sign. 

From Jefferson City , TN take Hwy 92 toward Rutledge. Go 1.4 miles north past Cherokee Dam and turn left on Owl Hole Gap Road . Then go 4.9 miles and turn left on Indian Ridge Road . Then go 0.6 miles and turn left on the gravel road at the Buffalo Springs WMA sign.

Chuck Swan

Crops planted: 40 acres of sunflowers and top-sown wheat at the Forks of the River area.

Hunt Dates: Same as statewide seasons. Opens at noon on September 1.

Directions: Take Hwy. 33N out of Knoxville, cross Norris Lake; go approximately 1 mile and turn left on Sharps Chapel Road; this dead ends into Chuck Swan. The field is approximately 12 miles within the area near Forks of the River on Main Forest Road .

Forks Of The River

Crops planted: 52 acres (total) including: top-sown wheat, sunflowers, buckwheat, popcorn and millet. (This field is not attracting many doves. Please try an alternative field).

Hunt Dates: (Eastern State Field) - September 1, 3, 5 and every day thereafter during the statewide dove seasons. Opens at noon on September 1. Field capacity is limited. Pigeon hunting open during dove hunts only.

WMA Small Game Permit is required.

Directions: In Knoxville, cross the South Knoxville Bridge and exit right at the first exit. Turn left and continue to the end of road. Turn right on Island Home Ave and continue past Ijams Nature Center. Cross railroad track, and turn at next left on McClure Road. Go to the end of the road.

Hunt Dates: (Whaley Tract) - This field is Youth/Adult only on Sept. 3. Each youth (ages 6-16) must be accompanied by a licensed adult, 21 years of age or older, who may also hunt. The field is open to all hunters the rest of the statewide season.

Directions: In Knoxville, cross the South Knoxville Bridge and exit right at the first exit. Turn left and continue to the end of road. Turn right on Island Home Ave and continue past Ijams Nature Center. Cross railroad track, and turn at next left on McClure Road. Go to the end of the road.

From John Sevier Hwy.: take Burnette Creek Road and travel 2.4 miles. The field is on the right.

Kyles Ford

Crops planted: 30 acres of top-sown wheat. 

Hunt Dates: Same as statewide season. Opens at noon on September 1.

Directions: From Morristown, travel 6.1 miles on U.S. 25E north. Take U.S. 11W north and travel 19.8 miles toward Rogersville. Take Hwy. 70 north and travel 16.8 miles to Kyles Ford. Turn right on Horton Ford Road and travel approximately 1 mile to the dove field.

Lick Creek Bottoms

Crops planted:
South Mohawk Field :
60 acres of millet and top-sown wheat.
Joachim Bible Refuge:
30 acres of millet and wheat.

Hunt Dates: South Mohawk Field (lead shot acceptable): September 1, 3*, and 5-26, and Oct. 8-23. Opens at noon on September 1. *Hunting on September 3 is youth/adult only from sunrise to noon. Each youth (ages 6-16) must be accompanied by a licensed adult, 21 years of age or older, who may also hunt.

Hunt Dates: Joachim Bible Refuge Field (non-toxic shot only): September 3 , Sept. 5-26 and Oct. 8-23. All dove hunting is Young Sportsman (ages 6-16) only. Each Youth must be accompanied by a licensed adult, 21 years of age or older, who may also hunt.

Directions: South Mohawk Field: Take McDonald Road and turn south on to South Mohawk Road and go approximately 1.5 miles and the field is on the left.

Directions: Joachim Bible Refuge: Get off Exit 15 on I-81; take Hwy. 340 South (i.e., Fish Hatchery Road). Then go 4 miles and turn left on Hwy. 348 West. Then go 3.5 miles and turn right at Concord Road (Pettit’s Grocery). Then go 1.2 miles and turn right at Matthews Lane. The field is at the end of the road.
