Course Descriptors

These single day events are designed to help local jurisdictions understand changes to the GIS Public Safety data model for Tennessee.  It is geared toward Districts that have GIS maintenance responsibilities and their respective GIS vendors.

This class will provide an overview of the revised GIS data standards and walk through examples of correct attribution and how populating the GIS data in certain ways can constitute an error in the downstream MSAG creation and validation processes, or prevent your data from processing at all. We will summarize certain modeling specifications as well to provide best practices on geographic placement.    This class is available only to local government employees and/or partners who assist with GIS data maintenance for 9-1-1.   The course is limited to the first 25 persons per offering.

This class will review editing pitfalls in the GIS data that are related to MSAG creation/updating and that eventually affect the statewide hosted ALI. Solutions to common problems will be presented and editing techniques will be demonstrated. These will be specific to the Esri environment, but will translate to other GIS editing packages. We will also summarize certain modeling specifications to provide best practices on geographic placement. As the State of Tennessee has chosen to create MSAG from the address points, the primary feature classes under consideration will be the address points and ESN polygons, however we will touch on the road centerlines as time permits. A preview of the new Esri desktop application, ArcGIS Pro, will also be shown.  This class is available only to local government employees and/or partners who assist with GIS data maintenance for 9-1-1.  The course is limited to the first 15 persons per offering.
