Reen Locker Baskin currently serves as Director of Communications for Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. As Director of Communications, Baskin is the Haslam administration’s top communications official, providing advice and strategy to the governor, cabinet, senior staff and state departments while overseeing internal and external communications and overall messaging for the administration.
Prior to joining Governor Haslam’s cabinet as a member of his senior staff, Baskin served the state as Deputy Director for the Office of Customer Focused Government (CFG) and as Director of Alternative Workplace Solutions (AWS) where she led the strategy and implementation of the state’s AWS initiative aimed at improving workspace use, boosting employee mobility and productivity, and improving recruitment and retention.
Prior to working in CFG, Baskin served for five years as Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer at the Department of General Services and before that as an Associate Attorney with Farris Mathews Bobango, PLC in Nashville.
Baskin was honored in 2016 as a Nashville Business Journal Top Forty under Forty Award recipient and, in 2011, as a Nashville Top 30 under 30 Honoree by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She is also a Torchbearer Award recipient from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) and is a recipient of the Dorothy Shaw National Leadership Award.
A graduate of UTK, Baskin has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration. She also holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Vanderbilt University and a Juris Doctorate from the Nashville School of Law.
An active community member, Baskin was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, serving on the Administrative Law Section Executive Council from 2014-2016 and recently served as Co-chair of the 95th Anniversary Gala benefiting the Junior League of Nashville.
