Lt. Colonel Tony Barham
Lieutenant Colonel Tony Barham was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and Chief of Staff in June 2018. Barham absorbs the Executive Officers duties that were formally assigned to a reclassified major position. He will also oversee the THP’s Support Services, Wireless Communications and Honor Guard. The Chief of Staff will be in charge of the day-to-day THP operations in the absence of the Colonel. Barham was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 2017. As Lieutenant Colonel he was oversaw the Administrative Bureau. In 2015, he was promoted to Major and Executive Officer to the Colonel. Prior to his promotion to Major he served as Captain of the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Special Programs Unit. The unit consisted of all administrative functions of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, including Pupil and Daycare Transportation Safety, as well as Safety Education and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) programs. As Captain, Barham oversaw the Special Programs administrative personnel, who are responsible for providing educational and training programs on a variety of public and traffic safety initiatives to citizens across the state. He began his career with the Highway Patrol in 1988 as a road trooper in Giles County. Barham also served in Hardin and McNairy counties until he was promoted to Sergeant in 2003. In 2008, Barham was promoted to Lieutenant over the Nashville District’s Special Programs Unit. He received his bachelor’s degree from Freed Hardeman University, and is a 2003 graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.
