Discover Nursing

The Tennessee Department of Correction is looking for good nurses and correctional medicine can be a truly rewarding career.  With over 19,000 offenders in our system, we work diligently to manage and maintain the health of each offender.  The department currently has 155 nursing positions.

The TDOC offers a broad scope of medical services. TDOC nurses administer medication, work with chronically ill inmates, answer sick calls and conduct routine medical exams. They are also responsible for providing first aid/emergency care for employees, volunteers, and visitors to the prisons. As the offender population ages, the need for trained nurses continues to rise.

State nursing opportunities are currently available at the Lois M. DeBerry Special Needs Facility.

We are currently seeking:

Licensed Practical Nurse 2
(Nashville Area - Full Time/Part Time)
TDOC Salary: Starts at $2,393 per month

Registered Nurse 3
(Nashville Area - Full Time/Part Time)
TDOC Salary: Starts at $4,091 per month

Above, we have provided the starting salaries for each position; however, salaries may also be determined by the education and experience of each applicant.

TDOC offers:

  • A competitive salary package
  • Exceptional state benefits
  • Paid annual training for continuing education units needed to maintain nursing licensure.
