Institute for CTE Educators Call for Presenters

Registration is now open for the 2018 Institute for CTE Educators. Our theme for this year’s institute is “The Vision of Excellent CTE Instruction: Rigorous, Relevant, and Focused.” This year, institute attendance will be tracked by session survey completion in the online app. Attendees are encouraged to review the “Attendance Tracking” tab on the registration site. Participants can reserve their hotel by selecting the “hotel” tab on the registration page. Book early, as hotel blocks will sell out fast! Register by April 30 for a chance to win a $25 gas gift card (see details on the registration site). If you need assistance with the registration process, please contact cteinstitute@utk.edu. Path of Choice Mini-Conference

On July 12-13, in conjunction with the Institute for CTE Educators, the department will offer a mini-conference based on the suggestions and resources described in A Path of Choice: Building a Postsecondary-going School Culture. Attendees will choose one of two "deep-dive" sessions – equity in college access and success or early college and career strategies – and will participate in various breakout sessions and workshops as well.

The purpose of this event is to support district- and school-based teams as they develop a holistic approach to academic readiness, student advisement, and career exploration. Attendees will explore topics such as ACT/SAT improvement, early postsecondary opportunities, work-based learning, and student advisement through the lens of school culture.

All educators are invited and encouraged to participate in this event. Register for the Path of Choice Mini-Conference by June 15, and view further information and the tentative agenda here.

Occupational License New Teacher Training

  • July 16-20, 2018
  • Nashville, TN

New occupational licensed teachers are required to attend all five days of this training within their first year of teaching. Every teacher in attendance should have either a valid teaching license or have submitted an application for licensure. New, traditional licensed CTE teachers who have not yet completed an educator preparation program are encouraged to attend. During this training, teachers will engage in sessions ranging from planning and instruction to classroom management techniques.

Teachers who plan to attend the training should register online. If you have questions, please contact Andrea.Thorsbakken@tn.gov
