  • TDOE Announces Reading 360 Model Districts

    NASHVILLE, TN — Today, the Tennessee Department of Education announced five districts have been recognized as Reading 360 Model Districts for their promising early literacy work- Bristol Tennessee City Schools, Jackson County Schools, Lebanon Special School District, Milan Special School District, and Williamson County Schools- and have been selected as Tennessee Model Foundational Skills Implementation District grant awardees for implementing the Tennessee Foundational Skills Curriculum Supplement over the 2020-21 school year.

  • TDOE Offers Additional SPED and ESL Endorsement Opportunities to 5,000+ Tennessee Educators

    NASHVILLE, TN — Today, the Tennessee Department of Education announced a new grant opportunity that will provide up to 2,400 licensed Tennessee educators the ability to add a new Special Education (SPED) and English as a Second Language (ESL) additional endorsement to their educator license. This grant opportunity will also be offered during the 2022-23 school year, allowing another cohort of 2,400 educators to earn an additional endorsement in either SPED or ESL at low or no cost, building off additional efforts to provide these opportunities to over 5,000 educators.

  • Free ACT Retake Opportunities Available for All Tennessee High School Seniors to Help Boost Scores

    Nashville, TN—Today, the Tennessee Department of Education highlighted an opportunity this fall for all high school seniors to boost their scores on the ACT college entrance exam after taking the test the first time as a junior during the COVID-19 pandemic. While a recent ACT, Inc. study found that the 2020-21 ACT results indicated an anticipated decline in ACT scores nationwide, Tennessee is the first and only state to offer this free retake opportunity to every Tennessee high school senior this fall.

  • Governor Lee Announces 2020-21 Governor’s Civics Seal District and School Recipients

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee Department of Education announced the districts and schools earning the 2020-21 Tennessee Excellence in Civics Education and unveiled the Governor’s Civics Seal at McConnell Elementary in Hamilton County. The 53 schools and three districts receiving this designation will be recipients of the Governor’s Civics Seal, which recognizes schools and districts that prioritize teaching the nation’s history and civics values.
