Science Standards Training

In the 2018-2019 school year, Tennessee schools will implement and assess the new Tennessee Academic Standards for Science. The department is excited to offer differentiated training and support for districts, school leaders, and teachers around the new Science standards. All trainings will include face-to-face components as well as virtual materials to support differentiation and ongoing collaboration and learning.

Overview

Districts will be asked to bring one team of up to four members to begin planning for standards roll-out in the 2018-2019 school year. This training will provide a broad overview of the new Tennessee Academic Standards for Science and will deliver content based on how districts can best support their schools and educators.

Intended Audience

We recommend a four-person team from each district. This team should include a district-level curriculum and instruction leader, a science content leader, an instructional coach, and a school leader. Each district should send at least one representative that can make actionable decisions regarding training and implementation for the district.

Materials

Materials will be available by mid-December.

Dates and Location

District training will take place regionally December 6–14, 2017 from 8 AM to 3:30 PM.

Overview

The department will also offer training for content leaders. This training will equip a team of 3 district designated content leaders to facilitate training for school leaders and teachers to prepare them for implementation of the revised standards.

Intended Audience

Districts will choose representatives to attend the training. Districts with fewer than 2,000 students can send up to 3 representatives, districts with 2,000-4,999 students can send up to 4 representatives, districts with 5,000-9,999 students can send up to 5 representatives, and districts with 10,000 students or more can send up to 6 representatives.

Materials

Materials will available early February.

Dates and Location

Content Leader Training will be a one-day training held at the Nashville Airport Marriott on January 30, January 31, February 6, and February 7.
