Tennessee Air Quality Monitoring & Forecasting

Air Quality Forecasts and Alerts

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is issuing a Code Orange Air
Quality Alert for ozone for the following areas, valid for June 16th,
2018:

Nashville
MSAKnoxville
MSAGreat
Smoky Mountains National Park

An area of high pressure will spread from the Lower Great Lakes down towards the
Mid-Atlantic region tomorrow, increasing heat and lowering humidity for most of
the Ohio and Tennessee Valley regions.  Today, hourly ozone values greater
than 70 ppb are being observed from Michigan down to Tennessee, behind and
along a frontal boundary that is dropping south into Alabama and Georgia.
Tomorrow, expect ozone levels to reach into the lower end of the Unhealthy for
Sensitive Groups range (101-150) in Nashville and in the Knoxville / Great
Smoky Mountain areas.  Although the general public is not likely to be affected at this AQI
range, people with lung disease, older adults and children are at a greater
risk from exposure to ozone, whereas persons with heart and lung disease, older
adults and children are at greater risk from the presence of particles in the
air.
