Zero Waste TN Partners
Did you know that Americans make up only 4 percent of the world’s population, yet we generate nearly 40 percent of the world’s total waste? Tennesseans generate approximately 6.6 pounds of waste per person per day, which is higher than the national average of 4.4 pounds per day, and nearly triple the global average of 2.6 pounds per day.
In response to increasing waste management challenges, TDEC's Office of Sustainable Practices has developed the Zero Waste TN program and is working to expand the program to include Zero Waste TN Partners across the state, including manufacturers, businesses, higher education institutions, non-profits and organizations that take the initiative to consciously reduce their waste. These partners will be highlighted as Zero Waste Partners and featured on the Zero Waste TN webpage as an informative and beneficial resource for Tennesseans to use. The goal is to provide a comprehensive resource for citizens to be able to see which businesses go above and beyond to make responsible decisions, implement sustainable operations, and encourage zero waste practices. TDEC will utilize current strategies, best practices, and procedures being used by Zero Waste Partners across the state to develop a comprehensive Zero Waste Guide for Businesses.
By completing the Zero Waste TN Partners form, you will be joining a team that promotes and provides education on Zero Waste practices across the state of Tennessee. The Office of Sustainable Practices will use information you provide to develop case studies and eventually a comprehensive zero waste guide for businesses. Being a Zero Waste TN Partner allows manufacturers, businesses, higher education institutions, non-profits, and other organizations to share their knowledge and experiences and spread the zero waste initiative across the state. Partners will be featured on the Zero Waste TN website through an interactive resource that citizens can navigate. The resource will highlight each partner’s efforts and will include any waste diversion data and carbon footprint reduction information provided as well.
By adopting and promoting zero waste principles, we can greatly reduce our impact on Tennessee's environment, preserve our natural resources for future generations, and reduce the growing costs associated with the collection and disposal of our solid waste. Join us in this growing movement and help promote positive change in Tennessee.
