Physical Rehabilitation Services

The Physical Rehabilitation Services program structure includes four areas of emphasis:

1. Work Conditioning and Work Hardening
2. Activities of Daily Living Work Readiness
3. Individual Therapy Services
4. Personal Care Attendant training

The Work Conditioning Work Hardening (WCWH) program works with TRC students in group settings for each vocational training program. It uses simulated or actual work tasks, in addition to exercises that target:

• upper and lower body strength/coordination
• aerobic capacity and work tolerance
• fine motor strength/coordination
• core stability and balance
• visual motor integration and motor planning
• use of proper body mechanics
• weight lifting capacity according to industry standards

Students have the opportunity to participate in (2) one-hour sessions each week, with a goal to maximize their functional abilities for greater success in their respective training programs and employment. Measurement testing is performed initially, midway, and at discharge to track results.

ADL Work Readiness occurs during all clients’ first admission and is designed to teach students about TRC’s expectations for work appropriate hygiene, within their first week on campus. This is achieved through client/family intake interviews, ADL assessments for all new students, and a hygiene class. The goal is to help our clients understand professional image in their vocational development.

Individual therapy services will continue to be offered to TRC students that require additional and more personalized therapy.

The Personal Care Attendant Training Course teaches students how to hire and manage caregivers to maintain self-care and/or home management needs necessary for secondary education or employment.


• Improve physical capabilities to enhance employment readiness
• Provide greater insight into student disabilities for use in vocational evaluation determinations
• Decreases time away from instruction with set WCWH schedule blocks
• Increase opportunities for weekly small group skill enrichment within training programs
• Encourage lifestyles of fitness and wellness for optimal employee health and decreased work related injuries
• Empower students to take the lead in managing their care
• Foster a sense of ownership over good hygiene practices to affect self-esteem, healthy professional relationships and professional acceptance
