Brig. Gen. Donald L. Johnson

Brig. Gen. Donald L. Johnson is the Assistant Adjutant General, Air for the Tennessee National Guard. In this capacity, Brig. Gen. Johnson commands and insures the readiness of Tennessee's three flying and three mission support units. The flying units consist of the 118th Wing in Nashville, the 164th Airlift Wing in Memphis and the 134th Air Refueling Wing in Knoxville. The support units are the 119th Command and Control Group in Knoxville, the 241st Engineering and Installation Squadron in Chattanooga and the 236th Intelligence Squadron in Nashville.

Before his appointment as the ATAG, Air, Brig. Gen. Johnson served as the Deputy Director of Manpower, Personnel and Services for the Air National Guard in Washington, DC. As the Deputy Director, he was responsible for the oversight and direction of all day to day activities with the A1 Directorate supporting 107,600 Air National Guard members worldwide.

Brig. Gen. Johnson entered service with the active duty Air Force in October of 1976. Upon completion of basic training and tech school he was assigned to the 363rd Tactical Fighter Wing, Shaw AFB, SC. He enlisted in the Air National Guard with the 134th Air Refueling Wing in 1978 serving as a Crew Chief on KC-135 aircraft. Brig. Gen. Johnson was commissioned in 1986 through the Academy of Military Science, McGhee Tyson ANG Base, Knoxville, TN. He completed Logistics Plans training and was assigned to the 134th Air refueling Wing in Knoxville as the Installation Mobility Officer.

Brig. Gen. Johnson served the wing in various capacities in his ANG career, including Logistics Plans Officer, Supply Officer, Maintenance Operations Flight Commander, Aircraft Generation Squadron Commander, Mission Support Flight Commander, and the Advisor to the Commander, Air Reserve Personnel Center in Denver, Colorado before his assignment as the Deputy Director of Manpower, Personnel and Services for the Air National Guard.
