Colonel Steven E. Reece

Chief of Staff, Army

Colonel Steven E. Reece was assigned to serve as Tennessee’s Chief of Staff on 01 January 2017. He serves as the Adjutant General’s principle executive assistant and advisor, exercising executive management authority for direction, coordination, supervision, and training of the staff, while directing the efforts of coordinating and special staff officer.

Before his assignment, Colonel Reece served as the State Aviation Officer, Deputy Chief of Staff for Army Aviation; Commander of the Counterdrug Task Force; 30th Troop Command Administrative Officer; and Executive Officer for 4th Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment.

Colonel Reece is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, and currently resides in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  He commissioned as a 2LT in the Tennessee Army National Guard in 1989 and became a helicopter pilot in 1990 with 4th Squadron/ 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment.  He served in the Squadron until 2006 as a Platoon Leader, Company Commander twice, Assistant Operations Officer, Personnel Officer, Operations Officer and Executive Officer.  From 2006 to 2009 he served with the 30th Troop Command as Brigade Training Officer/Administrative Officer.  COL Reece deployed in 2007 to Afghanistan as an Embedded Trainer to the Afghan Army.
