Colonel Scott A. Gaines

Commander, 117th Regiment Training Institute

Colonel Scott A. Gaines was born in Columbia, Tennessee and graduated high school in from Columbia Central High School in May 1981. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Middle Tennessee State University in May 1992.  He completed a Master of Science in Education Administration and Supervision from Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. In 2010, He graduated from Nova Southeast University with an Educational Specialist Degree in Brain-Based Teaching and Educational Leadership. He lives with his wife, Antionette in Mount Pleasant, TN. Antionette and Scott have two sons, Robert and Zachary.

Colonel Gaines enlisted in the Active Army in December 1983, and served two years on active duty. He graduated from the Tennessee Military Academy in 1989 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Transportation Corps. Colonel Gaines deployed to Afghanistan in 2007. He graduated from the United States Army War College in 2015.

Colonel Gaines military awards include: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Afghan Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

He is currently the Commander of 117th Regiment Training Institute (RTI) in Nashville, Tennessee. He is employed as an Assistant Director for Maury County Public Schools in Columbia, TN.
