Colonel John A. Gobel is the Commander of the 230th Sustainment Brigade. Gobel enlisted in the Army National Guard in September 1989, serving as an Infantry Rifleman. Upon completion of ROTC at the University of Maine he was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in May 1991.
Col. Gobel has served in various staff and leadership assignments within the Army National Guard and Army Reserves. Gobel earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maine, Orono ME and a Masters of Business from Plymouth State University, Plymouth NH. He is a graduate of CGSC Intermediate Level Education, CAS3, Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Infantry Officer Basic Course, US Army Airborne and Ranger School, all located at Fort Benning, GA. He is also a graduate of the Military Police Transition Course.
His military awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon (3), Ranger Tab and the Basic Parachutist Badge.
Gobel’s civilian employment is as Director of Support & Infrastructure for Compassus, a healthcare company based in Brentwood TN. He has been married to Rebecca for 24 years and has three children, Evan (21), Anna (16) and Owen (14). Evan, a Senior at the University of Alabama is a ROTC Scholarship Cadet with an expected commissioning date of June 2019.
