Public Records Request

Tennessee Public Records Act

The Tennessee Public Records Act allows Tennessee citizens to view government public records that are connected to official business transactions, unless otherwise provided by state law. For more information on making a public records request, the Department’s Public Records Policy is available here.

Taxpayers do not need to send a public records request to obtain their own tax information or copies of their own tax returns.  See below for instructions.

How to Make a Public Records Request

Please submit your public records request using this request form available here.

Please direct public records requests to:

Kelly McCarthy, Public Information Officer
Tennessee Department of Revenue
Andrew Jackson Building, 11th Floor
500 Deaderick Street
Nashville, TN 37242
kelly.mccarthy@tn.gov

Tax Records and Motor Vehicle Records

Attn: Records Custodian
Tennessee Department of Revenue
Andrew Jackson Building
500 Deaderick Street
Nashville, Tennessee 37242

Taxpayers can get account information by logging into TNTAP or by visiting Revenue Help.
