Committee on Postsecondary Educational Institutions
PLEASE NOTE THAT LEGISLATION IS PENDING THAT WILL ALTER OUR REVIEW PROCESS. THE LEGISLATION WILL REMOVE THE COMMITTEE ON POSTSECONDARY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS (CPEI) FROM THIS PROCESS THEREBY ALTERING THE AUTHORIZATION PROCESS AND APPLICATION DEADLINES. AS A RESULT OF THE FOREGOING, FUTURE DUE DATES AND TRAINING DATES HAVE NOT BEEN SET. PLEASE CHECK BACK TO THIS WEBPAGE FOR FUTURE UPDATES.
The General Assembly created the Committee on Postsecondary Educational Institutions (CPEI) through the enactment of Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-7-207. Pursuant to this statute, the CPEI exercises such powers and undertakes such obligations as are delegated to it by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC).
The CPEI regularly schedules four meetings a year. CPEI members are permitted to participate in meetings by telephone or WebEx. At each of these meetings, the CPEI considers new institutions, new programs, applications for Optional Expedited Authorization, and reauthorizations of existing institutions for recommendation to the Tennessee Higher Eduction Commission. Below is a current list of application deadlines and quarterly meeting dates. The CPEI also hears discussions on or addresses other items, such as rulemaking proceedings, on-going litigation, and legislative issues, as applicable.
There are two mandatory meetings that an institutional representative must attend: (1) the Committee meeting during which the application is presented and (2) the Initial Authorization Training (IAT) following the Committee meeting. A representative from your institution is encouraged to attend the Q&A Session on Completing the Application for Initial Authorization prior to submitting the Application for Initial Authorization. Completing the application packet can be a daunting task and having staff feedback is very helpful. If you are interested in obtaining authorization to operate a postsecondary educational institution contact the Division of Postsecondary State Authorization at (615) 253-8857.
The CPEI will conduct its Spring quarterly meeting in person with an option to attend via WebEx on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. CST/CDT. The agenda includes consideration of Initial Authorization Applications, New Program Applications, Applications for Optional Expedited Authorization and Reauthorization Applications. A hyperlink to the agenda is available in the below chart.
The meeting will be held at Tennessee Tower, Third Floor, Conference Room N. The address is 312 Rosa L. Parks Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee 37243. Any member of the public may attend the meeting via WebEx using this LINK (Event Number: 2319 300 2893 / Event Password: EsYS5P6JTY3), or may join by phone by calling +1-415-655-0001 (Access Code: 231 930 02893/ Password: 37975765).
